Deep Purple along with fellow classic rockers Cheap Trick, Chicago, and Steve Miller have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  The Ceremony will be on April 8, 2016 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Veteran power-pop group Cheap Trick is best-known for such classic tunes as “I Want You to Want Me,” “Surrender,” “Dream Police” and the 1988 chart-topper “The Flame.”  Cheap Trick’s original lineup of singer Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Bun E. Carlos will be inducted.

Chicago formed in the late 1960s, Chicago had many hits spanning three decades.  Some of their best known songs include “Make Me Smile”, “25 or 6 to 4”, “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” and “Saturday in the Park”.  The group’s founding members — Peter Cetera, Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, Walter Parazaider,Danny Seraphine and the late Terry Kath — will be inducted.

Deep Purple Rock and roll hall of fame

Deep Purple is one of the most influential bands in rock music history.  The groups songs include “Smoke on the Water”, “Hush,” “Highway Star” and “Perfect Strangers.”  Inductees include original singer Rod Evans, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, drummer Ian Paice, keyboardist Jon Lord  singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover.  Mark III Deep Purple singer David Coverdale and bassist Glenn Hughes will also be inducted.

Steve Miller created a wonderfully strange brew of blues and semi-hard pop rock.  His great songs include “The Joker,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Rock’n Me,” and “Jet Airliner”.

I am glad to see the the fine folks in Cleveland finally recognizing the accomplishments of actual rock and roll bands for a change.  This is one small step toward rehabilitation the horrible image the so called “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” with fans of actual rock music.  But it is just one small step. Something tells me that next year they will revert to form pass over Vanilla Fudge in order to nominate Vanilla Ice.
